After making you ROFL with R-rated Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds is back to offer his comic timing as everyone’s favourite yellow Pokemon Pikachu in the brand new trailer for the live-action movie Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. This is the first time fans of the game turned animation series, turned movie will get to see what a world looks like when Pokemon co-habit the world with humans.
The 2.21-minutes-long trailer introduces 21-year-old Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) whose father, Harry Goodman (Paul Kitson), an ace private eye has gone missing. He lives in Ryme City where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world.
Tim meets Harry’s aid and former Pokemon partner Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) who will help him solve this ultimate mystery. The catch is, only Tim can understand what this wise-cracking, fluffy, and extremely electric (get it?) supersleuth has to say. For everyone else, it’s that adorable, eternal catchphrase Pika Pika.On the path to unravelling this mystery, we meet the live-action version of all of the fan-favourite Pokemon including, Charizard, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, Psyduck, and Dodrio. While Mr Mime has a special encounter with Tim and Pikachu, for some reason a gang of Greninjas seems to be coming after this unlikely pair.
Apart from Smith, Reynolds, and Kitson, the new movie also stars Kathryn Newton as junior reporter Lucy, and Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida. Karan Soni, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse, Chris Geere, Rita Ora, and Omar Chaparro make up rest of the cast.Directed by Rob Letterman, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is set to release on May 10, 2019
