Director Woody Allen said that he should be a “poster child” for the #MeToo movement because he’s worked in the film industry for 50 years and none of the actresses he’s worked with have accused him of sexual harassment or assault.
“I’m a big advocate of the #MeToo movement,” Allen said in an interview.
“I feel when they find people who harass innocent women and men, it’s a good thing that they’re exposing them. But you know, I should be the poster boy for the #MeToo movement. Because I have worked in movies for 50 years. I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses and not a single one – big ones, famous ones, ones starting out – have ever ever suggested any kind of impropriety at all. I’ve always had a wonderful record with them.”
Public opinion of Allen has seemingly taken a turn since the #MeToo movement started, with actors publicly apologizing for appearing in his movies and vowing never to work with him again. Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow has publicly accused Allen of molesting her when she was 7 years-old. Allen has always denied all allegations Dylan Farrow has made.
Allen’s son, Ronan Farrow, who strands by his sister’s accusations, is one of the journalists who published accusations of sexual harassment and assault against producer Harvey Weinstein made by several actresses, which helped jump-start the #MeToo movement.
In the interview, Allen also mentions that it “bothers” him that he is grouped with disgraced men such as Weinstein who have been accused of sexually harassing and assaulting dozens of women. “What bothers me is that I get linked in with them,” Allen said. “People who have been accused by 20 women, 50 women, 100 women of abuse and abuse and abuse. And I, who was only accused by one woman in a child custody case which was looked at and proven to be untrue, I get lumped in with these people.”

“Harry Potter” creator JK Rowling has revealed that she is currently writing the screenplay for the third film in the “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” series. The 52-year-old author took to her official blog to share the news.
“I’ve just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, ‘Lethal White’, and I’m now writing the screenplay for ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’,” Rowling wrote.
The third installment is yet to be titled.
The second part, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald“, will release on November 16 this year.
Rowling further teased her writing plans, saying she will pen another children’s book – which will be a departure from the Harry Potter universe.
Warner Bros. showed new footage from the second “Fantastic Beasts” movie, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April. The trailer for the movie – which stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore, and, amid some controversy, Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald – dropped in March.
The movie premieres in November, with the third picture scheduled for 2020. The plan is for the “Harry Potter” spinoff to run to five pictures.
Rowling also answered a question about her role as a producer on the films. She noted that the majority of her input comes early on in the process. “Warner Bros. and David Yates, the director, have always let me have my say, though not necessarily the final word,” she said. “That’s true of all the producers, of whom I’m only one: our input is taken seriously but it is very much a collaborative effort. The director is ultimately responsible for everything that’s seen on the screen.”
The bestselling author said she likes to start work early, but the “Fantastic Beasts” schedule can be punishing. She admitted that “in the last year of two I’ve put in a couple of all-nighters on the screenplays for ‘Fantastic Beasts.’”
Rowling also revealed that she is working on a new, non-Potter project for younger readers. That will happen when the “Fantastic Beasts 3” script is done.
“After that I’ll be writing another book for children. I’ve been playing with the (non-Harry Potter/wizarding world) story for about six years, so it’s about time I get it down on paper,” she wrote.
Harvey Weinstein in trouble once again, hit with new accusations of sexual assault.Three actresses have filed a new lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein alleging sexual assault and urged other victims of the disgraced Hollywood producer to come forward and join their complaint. Melissa Thompson, one of the women filing the class action lawsuit yesterday, said she was sexually assaulted by Weinstein during a 2011 meeting to discuss a new marketing tool. Following public revelations last year about his predatory behaviour, Thompson said she was referred to lawyer Benjamin Brafman and another attorney at his firm, Alex Spiro.
Brafman is defending Weinstein following his indictment last week on rape and sex crime charges. “Thompson was led to believe that Brafman and Spiro were representing victims against Weinstein,” the law firm representing her, Hagens Berman, said in a statement. “Deceptive tactics were used to entice her to turn over her visual and audio evidence of Weinstein’s conduct (which she did),” it said. “Melissa did not learn that Brafman was actually then or would later be Weinstein’s lead criminal defense attorney until after turning over the video as evidence.” Brafman’s law firm was named as a defendant in the lawsuit along with Weinstein’s former movie company Miramax and The Weinstein Company.
The other two actresses who are a party to the lawsuit are Caitlin Dulany and Larissa Gomes. It accusses Weinstein of “assaulting, threatening and falsely imprisoning (Dulany) in her apartment” in 1996 and again at the Cannes Film Festival that same year. As for Gomes, the second time Weinstein met with her, he “imprisoned her in his hotel room and threatened, battered and assaulted her,” the law firm said.
