Words and ideas have the power to change the world; they can help, heal, hinder, and humble. Such are the words of a renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist, and poet, who has been writing for us voicing his concerns and ideas through his famous “Poetrolls,” which express his take on the current political and social issues in our country.
We all are familiar with the name Dr. Sohan Roy, who has been taking time from his schedule each day to pen down 4-line short poetry for his readers, creating an uproar in the Indian literary field. Also known for his Hollywood directorial debut DAM999, he has always stood in for what he believes is right and in favor of a common man. To make things interesting, he depicts his philosophy with a tinge of humor, presenting the plain facts to the limelight. Presenting the poems in a “Poetroll” form along with suiting graphics and music, on August 9th, 2020, he will be completing his 1000th Poetroll. To make people enjoy poetry once again, he teamed up with renowned music director, B.R Bijuram, who composes and provides background music to all his poems. The term “Poetroll” was derived from the words poem and troll, as these works are mostly like poetic satires on current topics.

Sohan Roy is also the author of numerous other poems that have successfully created a buzz on social media platforms. The poem “Asifa’s Heaven,” he authored, soaked the whole of Kerala’s poem appreciators in tears. The eight-year-old tender girl who passed away after being gruesomely raped by a gang of barbarians was the poem’s concept. Similarly, lyrics on various topics like India’s heroic son “Abhinandan,” tribal lad Madhu who was stamped a thief for merely stealing to curb his hunger, etc. were widely viewed and discussed by lakhs of people on social media. “Roars of Color” was again one such effort that represented India’s solidarity towards any citizen facing the terrors of racial discrimination.
The first graphical anthology of his epigraphs – Anukavyam’ was first released at a glitzy event at Aries Plex in 2018 soon after which he published the book “Anumahavakavyam,” which was released at the Soorya festival last year by famed lyricist and poet Sreekumaran Thampi. Sohan Roy’s 1000th poem named “Sahasragarjanam” was released online by conducting a Webinar on 9th of August. It should be considered a phenomenal achievement as constantly commenting on hot current affairs need much more than writing skills.
